Jasper Fire & Rescue Improves ISO Rating

Jasper Fire & Rescue

April 1, 2025 - From Fire Chief Chris Uptain:  Jasper Fire & Rescue has improved from a Class 4/4x PPC rating to Class 3/3x PPC rating. This new rating will take effect on July 1, 2025. This classification is used by many insurance companies to help determine property insurance premiums.

The Public Protection Classification (PPC) program, developed by Verisk (formerly ISO), is a community fire protection scoring system that grades communities on a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 representing superior protection and 10 indicating a lack of minimum criteria.

The PPC program assesses the effectiveness of a community's fire protection services, including fire department capabilities, water supply, and emergency communication systems.

I'm thankful to the mayors, council members, and City Hall administrators that have bought into our vision of continual improvement with support and funding for vital equipment and training over the past several years.

I'd also like to acknowledge the contributions of the Jasper, Curry, and Boldo water departments, as well as Walker County 911, that has helped in bringing this lower rating to realization.

Mayor Cowen, The Jasper City Council, and the City of Jasper commend Fire Chief Uptain and all of Jasper Fire & Rescue for the work done to improve the city’s ISO rating. Congratulations!
