September 12, 2023 - Today Mayor O'Mary and the Jasper City Council once again proclaimed September 2023 as Gynecological Cancer Awareness Month. Cecilia Crandall briefly spoke at the council meeting and shared some staggering facts. Alabama is tied as the number one state for cervical cancer deaths in the U.S., and ranks sixth for ovarian cancers. No early detection tests or screening exists for four of the five ovarian cancers. The Laura Crandall Brown Foundation focuses on early detection research, education, and support services for gyn cancer patients and their families throughout Alabama. Members of the Laura Crandall Brown Foundation will soon be displaying teal bows around Jasper as part of their "A State of Teal" initiative to raise awareness of all GYN cancers.
