“This means a lot to our community,” Moore said. “We are very thankful for the funding. We will be putting it to good use.”

Gary Cowen, council member for District 3, said accepting money is always an easy decision for city officials.

“This is one of those times where we just have to say, ‘yes,’” he said.

The city also accepted funds in memory of Jackson Godfrey to be given to The Dream Team program. Godfrey served as a buddy during Dream Team baseball events in the past. His family donated $550 to the program. They were also given a plaque in Godfrey’s honor by the Jasper Parks and Recreation department.

In other action from the meeting, the council:

• Approved a budget amendment for curbing on 19th Street.

• Adopted a budget amendment for a culvert project for the Jasper Housing Authority, a sidewalk at Marion Avenue and the purchase of a vehicle for the Natatorium.

• Approved a resolution to allow Mayor David O’Mary to enter into an agreement with the Alabama Department of Transportation to remove a traffic light at the Jasper Mall entrance near Regions Bank.

• Approved several nuisance abatements for grass/weeds and unsafe structures.

• Approved an ordinance rezoning a .32 acre piece of land located at 1509 Alabama Avenue from R-1 (single family residential) to B-T (transition business) zoning for the purpose of future development.

• Adopted an ordinance to amend the business license ordinance in order to delete the requirement to charge interest on delinquent business licenses.

• Approved an ordinance to reduce the speed limit to 25 miles per hour on a portion of 21st Street.

• Approved place 4-way stop at 13th Avenue and 21st Street, and a 3-way stop at 11th Avenue and 21st Street.
