October 18, 2023 - At yesterday's council meeting, Presiding Officer Jennifer W. Smith, in the absence of and on behalf of Mayor David O'Mary, and the Jasper City Council proclaimed October 16-20, 2023, as Alabama College Application Week in Jasper. This week, students across Alabama can get their college application fee waived when they apply to certain colleges and universities in Alabama and across the southeast. AL College Application Week started in 2012 to increase the number of students applying for postsecondary education. With the assistance of Jasper High School Career Coach Monique Lawrence, this is the second consecutive year Jasper has proclaimed the third week in October as AL College Application Week. Presiding Officer Smith presented the proclamation to Ms. Lawrence and Jasper High School students - senior Hadley Williams, senior Ja'Lissa Windham, and junior Carson Hyche (left to right).
