JASPER TO UNVEIL AMERICA 250 COMMUNITY MURAL ON VETERANS DAY
Public Invited to Celebrate Downtown Following Parade and Community Cookout
JASPER, AL - The City of Jasper, Jasper Main Street, the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County, and the Walker County Arts Alliance will unveil the America 250 Community Unity Tree Mural on Wednesday, November 11, at 1 p.m. at the Glover Drugs building in downtown Jasper.
The unveiling will follow downtown Veterans Day activities, including the Veterans Day Parade from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and the Community Veterans Cookout and Rally from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Courthouse Square. The cookout will feature burgers for the public.
The patriotic Unity Tree mural incorporates individual tiles painted by attendees of “Murals, Mules, & Made in America,” Jasper’s America 250 celebration held June 11, as well as students of the Walker County Arts Alliance and visitors to the Jasper Welcome Center. Permanently installed on the side of the Glover Drugs building (408 18th St E, Jasper, AL), the mural commemorates the nation’s 250th anniversary. The project was partially funded by a grant from America250AL.
“This mural reflects the pride we share in our country and the strength of a community coming together to create something lasting,” said Mayor Josh Gates. “We’re pleased to unveil it on Veterans Day as we come together to honor those who have served our country.”
The project connects community participation with public art, creating a permanent reminder of Jasper’s America 250 celebration in the heart of downtown.
“Every tile represents someone who took part in creating something for our community,” said Mike Putman, executive director of Jasper Main Street. “Together, those individual contributions have become a piece of public art that residents can take pride in, and visitors can enjoy for years to come. We look forward to bringing everyone together to see the finished mural.”
The public is invited to attend the unveiling and participate in the day’s downtown activities.
