Exciting improvements are coming to the Jasper Animal Shelter!

July 17, 2026 - To allow for planned renovations and facility improvements, the Jasper Animal Shelter will temporarily move to Priority 1 Intake beginning immediately.

These improvements are part of the City's ongoing commitment to enhancing the shelter for both the animals in its care and the community it serves.

During Priority 1 Intake, the shelter will operate under emergency intake procedures. During this time, standard healthy stray intakes and owner surrenders will be temporarily suspended. The shelter will only accept:

• Dangerous dogs
• Severely injured or sick animals
• Animals seized by law enforcement or Animal Control

This temporary change will allow important upgrades to be completed, creating a safer, more functional, and more welcoming environment for the animals in the shelter's care, the Greater Birmingham Humane Society staff who operate the facility, and the public.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as these improvements are completed. We are excited about the upgrades and look forward to announcing when renovations are complete and the shelter resumes regular intake operations.

Thank you for your continued support of the Jasper Animal Shelter and the animals it serves.
